The Appraisal & Revalidation Alliance (The ARA) is a UK-based organisation providing appraisal and revalidation support, CPD training events, and related professional services. We are part of The Network Group, which includes Pertemps Medical and other subsidiaries. Your data may be shared within the group where relevant to providing these professional services.

We process two main categories of personal data:

• Marketing Data (minimal):

  • Name

  • Email address

• Service Delivery Data (when you engage with us for appraisal/revalidation):

  • Name and contact details

  • GMC number or other professional registration number

  • Professional and clinical background details, including speciality

  • Information about your professional and/or clinical qualifications

  • Documentation and supporting evidence for appraisal or revalidation

  • Payment and invoicing details (if applicable)

  • Information submitted to our appraisal management platform (e.g. reflections, supporting information, CPD records)

  • Any other information you choose to provide during the appraisal/revalidation process

How We Use Your Information​

For Marketing Purposes:

We only use your name and email address to:

• Send you information about appraisal and revalidation services

• Invite you to CPD training events and professional development opportunities and healthcare-related events

Lawful basis: Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). We balance this against your rights and expectations and always include the option to unsubscribe.

All of our marketing emails include a clear unsubscribe link, which is actioned immediately if you choose to opt out.

For Appraisal and Revalidation Services:
When you engage The ARA for services, we use your data to:

• Assign a suitable appraiser

• Provide appraisal and revalidation services

• Support your connection to a Designated Body (if applicable)

• Manage your access to our chosen appraisal platform (e.g. L2P)

• Fulfil regulatory requirements (e.g. GMC, NHS England)

• Provide customer support and respond to enquiries

• Performance of a Contract (Article 6(1)(b))

• Legal Obligation (Article 6(1)(c))

Special category data:
Where we process sensitive information (e.g. health or fitness-to-practise details), we rely on Article 9(2)(g) – Substantial Public Interest, in line with statutory and regulatory obligations relating to medical revalidation.

We may share your data with:

• Within our group of companies and subsidiaries where necessary to provide related services

• Appraisers and Responsible Officers: for appraisal/revalidation purposes

• Appraisal platform providers (e.g. L2P) for secure document management

• Professional advisers or insurers where necessary

We do not sell or share your data for third-party marketing.

International Transfers​

Where personal data is transferred outside the UK/EEA (for example, when using Mailchimp to manage email communications), we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the UK/EU Commission and apply additional safeguards where necessary.

Only minimal data (name and email address) is transferred for marketing purposes, and we ensure it is handled securely.
