Mr Abbas Ghazanfar

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (FCPS), the European Board of Surgery (FEBS), the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS), and the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Additionally, I am a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS), the British Transplantation Society, the European Transplantation Society, the American Society of Transplantation, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. My professional affiliations also include the European Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association, the European Donation Platform, and the Ethical, Legal & Psychosocial Aspects in Donation & Transplant group, as well as membership in the British Medical Association.

My Experience

I am a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where I have worked since 2012. I also hold honorary consultant posts at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust and serve as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University of London. Currently, I am the lead for vascular access surgery at St Helier Hospital and the lead for transplant medical education.

I qualified as a doctor from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan, in 1998 and completed my general surgical training at King Edward Medical College and Mayo Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan, earning my fellowship degree. In 2004, I moved to the UK and undertook a clinical and research fellowship at Manchester Royal Infirmary, where I worked from 2005 to 2012. My training included multi-organ retrieval, kidney transplantation in paediatric and adult recipients, pancreas transplantation, and surgery for encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis.

I have a strong interest in clinical research and medical education. I have presented my work at national and international conferences and have published articles in renowned journals. I am also actively involved in medical education and the supervision of medical students at various levels.
