My Experience
I am working as a locum Consultant Psychiatrist, providing my services to NHS Trusts and different charities, who cover a wide variety of areas in mental health and substance misuse including health and well-being, criminal justice and safeguarding issues. I have over 18 years of experience working in different specialties of Psychiatry in the UK and the Republic of Ireland i.e. General Adult Psychiatry, Psychiatry of Later Life, Psychological Medicine, Forensic Psychiatry, HMP (Her Majesty’s Prison) Service, Rehabilitation Psychiatry, Mental Health and Deafness, Substance Misuse, Learning Disability and CAMHS LD (Learning Disability), ADHD and ASD. Along with my clinical responsibilities, I am actively involved in medical governance. I am a fully trained Medical Appraiser and Responsible Officer (RO) with the knowledge and skills to carry out appraisals for revalidation. I am also trained as a Case Manager by the National Clinical Assessment Service (NCAS), which enables me to be an appropriately trained individual who manages the process to determine whether there is a problem to address in a doctor’s performance. I carry out appraisals for designated bodies, locum agencies, and organizations supporting appraisal and revalidation in the UK. I also carry out appraisals for doctors who do not have prescribed connections with designated bodies. My scope of work includes attending appraiser refresher courses and appraiser peer review meetings. I also remained a Responsible Officer (RO) for the locum agencies. In this regard, I attended RO network meetings organized by NHS England and meetings with GMC Employer Liaison Adviser (ELA). I also acted as a keynote speaker for appraisal and revalidation seminars in the UK and Ireland.
I am also working as a mentor under the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK (RCPsych) MTI (Medical Training Initiative) scheme. From 2019 to 2024, I remained an RCPsych SAS committee member for the Addictions Faculty.
