Training, training everywhere (But what do I look for in a training provider?)

Updated: Jul 9, 2019

Pete Richardson ponders the massive growth in aesthetic training “academies” and what to look for in a training provider.

There has been what can only be termed as an explosion in the number of “organisations” offering training and treatments in aesthetics.

While the powers that be move at a snails’ pace with regard to regulation, rules and moves towards changes in the law hundreds and hundreds of businesses are setting up to offer aesthetic treatments and others are new “academies”.

But how can you choose a good training academy?

What questions should you ask and what should you be looking for?

It’s probably a good idea to start at Companies House with a simple search to see how long the company has been trading and have a look at their filed accounts.

From there you should probably ask who am I going to be being taught by? How long have they been teaching and what qualifications do they possess?

It’s probably going to cost quite a lot of money, so you want to know what the refund’s policy is like and how detailed the paperwork is and how well it prepares you for the course.

If I was going on a course I’d definitely ask to be shown round the facilities to make sure they are up to scratch….don’t just trust pictures on a website!

Do they have official status from official organisations e.g. VTCT? IQ Verify? Or other accredited certification or awarding bodies.

What levels of support do they offer post training? Are there CPD days or other forms of support?

Do some research and look for reviews by former students and find out what they say about the training provider.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
